Overview: The report believes that there are several reasons for the decline in property/casualty insurance merger activity during 2001, including changes in macroeconomic conditions and industry fundamentals. The report also believe that this slowdown reflects recognition by more insurance organizations, due in part to a number of recent mergers that have not met expectations, that there are considerable challenges in evaluating and finding suitable acquisition candidates as well as realizing strategic objectives from an acquisition.
