Overview: In the late 1980s, the South Dakota Air National Guard began preparing for the arrival of F-16 aircraft, which were to be based at Joe Foss Field in Sioux Falls. It was recognized that the thrust generated by the F-16s could damage nearby buildings. To safely accommodate the aircraft and provide proper parking and movement, it would be necessary to improve one section of concrete, as well as reconfigure the geometry of the entire apron. Initial design of the parking apron renovation was awarded to Howard R. Green Company. To augment the existing surface drain system, additional surface drains were added.
