Overview: Monhegan Island, off the coast of Maine, needed high quality power to support its island residents and industry. Northern Power Systems recently provided a 300kW diesel-fired power plant for the Monhegan Plantation Power District (MPPD) on Monhegan Island, ten miles off the coast of Maine. MPPD is a municipal power company that supports a year-round community of lobster fishermen and a busy summer tourist trade. Northern has also designed a 4,160V power distribution system. Northern's services for this project include in-house engineering, program management, subcontracting, vendor negotiations and dealings with local permitting authorities. Northern also provided a switchgear package for the gensets, custom-built for low voltage isolated grid applications.
