Overview: The U.S. Navy's Fallon Range TACTS site in central Nevada needed reliable power for its communications equipment to relay information in extreme hot and cold weather conditions. Under contract to TRW Systems Integration Group, Northern Power Systems designed, manufactured, and installed a hybrid TelePower photovoltaic/diesel power system on a 10,200' mountaintop site in central Nevada. The power system consists of an 11,872 peak watt photovoltaic array coupled with a 20 kilowatt diesel generator set. The array charges a maintenance-free battery bank and is designed to support the site loads on a year-round basis.
