Overview: Sprint PCS needed reliable power at an off-grid site in Puerto Rico. Northern Power Systems designed, manufactured and installed a TeleSol Plus hybrid power system on a jungle mountaintop above Yabucoa, Puerto Rico for a strategic Sprint PCS microwave repeater site. Northern's solution was a high reliability, solar photovoltaic (PV) system with a backup diesel generator. The power system provides a key link in the Sprint PCS North-South backbone for the eastern end of the island. Northern's system was designed to produce primary power by means of an optimally sized PV array.
