Overview: The Gaming Machine Act is a key piece of legislation in respect of gambling in the ACT and John took this review very seriously. Earlier this year that work culminated in the passage of the new Act, incorporating many of the recommendations that the Review had made. More details about the research that it is currently undertaking and has recently completed for the Commission are provided elsewhere in this report. Many of the issues surrounding problem gambling are, as yet, poorly understood and the Commission is pleased to have the assistance of the research of the Centre in dealing with them.
