Overview: As far back as the late 1980's, the base energy manager at Patuxent River began exploring the economic benefits of GeoExchange. But at the same time, there was not widely understood in the US, and installation costs were higher than most conventional systems, even though operating costs were lower. At the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, GeoExchange systems are saving energy dollars at two on-base office facilities. The GeoExchange projects came about, in part, because base engineers and management came to believe that the systems could save energy dollars.
