Overview: This study summarizes about Old ARCO Arena which uses Geothermal Systems. The facility was built in 1985 as a temporary venue for the Kings. The owner of the old arena then converted the former stadium/concert hall into an office building. As part of the renovation project, a packaged, variable-air-volume (VAV) system was designed and partially installed. Based on occupant satisfaction with water-loop heat pump systems in other projects, the new owners opted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a GeoExchange heat and cooling system. Because of the conversion of the Old ARCO Arena to a commercial building, and because the originally installed, partially complete VAV system only served about 20% of the building.
