Overview: GeoExchange is more efficient than a fossil fuel furnace (and no carbon monoxide wastes to contend with). Instead, this electrically powered system taps the solar heat stored beneath the earth to heat and cool a home or facility. A GeoExchange system has three primary components: an indoor unit; plastic polyethylene pipe; and ductwork for air delivery. In addition, most systems can include a "desuperheater" which directs excess heat to the hot water tank. By preheating, water heating costs alone can be cut up to 50 percent.
