Overview: Aesthetics, quietness, and energy cost savings are some of the reasons cited by owner Michael Hoffman and architect Henry Dennis for a decision to use GeoExchange (geothermal) heating and cooling systems to heat and cool the new Holiday Inn Express in Albany, New York. Each room has a console heat pump, while office areas have six ceiling-mounted heat pumps. They believe that the decision to the GeoExchange system has given them a substantial competitive advantage in his market, where energy costs can be as high as 20 to 22 percent of sales.
