Overview: Novartis Consumer Health is part of the Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company formed after the merger of Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and Ciba Geigy. Because the Rowville manufacturing unit of Novartis is a food manufacturing plant, the hot water used for cleaning process equipment must be at least 75?C, in order to comply with health and safety regulations. The system consists of one insulated hot water holding tank with a capacity of 3000 liter; 36 solar panels; and 9 gas burners for supplementing the solar heat and getting the water up to the necessary high temperature.
