Overview: This paper focuses on HVDC Light which is a new HVDC transmission system, based on VSC technology. The technology allows for relatively small filters on the installation, and the supply can feed into otherwise passive networks without the need for synchronous condensers or local generation. Being relatively compact and lightweight, and with its superior control properties, VSC technology therefore paves the way for supplying electrical power from shore to offshore installations.
