Overview: This paper discusses about the HVDC application in Murraylink Transmission Company Ltd (MTC).The MTC awarded a contract in December 2000 for the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction of the transmission interconnection Project in Australia. Key reasons for the choice of voltage source converter (VSC) were based on HVDC technology for the project. These included the use of a light weight, solid insulated HVDC cable system that could be directly buried, allowing the use of existing rights of way and fast permitting/approvals.
