Overview: Greater Glasgow NHS Board is the largest of Scotland's 15 health authorities. The Health Promoting Health Service (HPHS) framework has been developed over a number of years and piloted in nine areas of Scotland. A full evaluation of the pilots has been carried out. In addition to the core principles and areas of work identified in the framework, the evaluation identified a number of factors critical to effective development of a health promoting health service: leadership, support of leaders and other key individuals, organizational commitment and the development of competence.
