Overview: The paper mentions that it's no secret that equipment manufacturers and service providers have had to shoulder an increasing amount of the R&D burden lately. Multicomponent ocean bottom seismic has been no exception. Multicomponent acquisition on land is moving ahead, but what is happening offshore? In what is almost a chicken and egg analogy, someone has to commit first to move this technology into widespread marine use, and eventually into even deeper waters. Equipment suppliers and service providers have shown their faith in technology, as evidenced by multi-client ocean bottom cable (OBC) surveys and the recent introduction of OBC systems.
