Overview: The article states that currently, the art of selecting locations of natural gas and oil development wells relies primarily on information acquired from two sources of significantly different resolution. Surface seismic surveys provide a coarse overview of the stratigraphy and structure in the region surveyed. However, the resolution of surface seismic surveys is generally not adequate for providing detailed, reservoir scale, information, particularly in the deep and complex reservoirs that represent a growing share of the remaining resource base.
