Overview: On June 30, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill granting Yosemite Valley to the State of California as an inalienable public trust. The National Park Service is entrusted with the task of safeguarding America's natural treasures. By implementing photovoltaic (PV) solar electric generation, the Park service could further fulfill its mission of preserving Yosemite's natural resources while reducing air pollution in Yosemite Valley and cutting utility costs. The solar PV array will reduce pollution and the demand for fossil fuels, along with supporting the park's mission to preserve its natural and cultural resources.
