Overview: Evanston Township High School (ETHS) is located in the City of Evanston, Illinois (home of Northwestern University). The school is air conditioned, and has 2080 Tons of low-pressure steam fired absorption cooling. A central boiler plant provides steam for heating, hot water, and absorption cooling. Recovery captures approximately 12.5% of the input energy to the engines and replaces approximately 73,000 therms per year of boiler gas. The system has resulted in a 30% reduction in utility expenses for the high school.
