Overview: Early last year, Volkswagen AG set a corporate goal to be Y2K compliant by June 30, 1999. At the Wolfsburg, Germany production plant, which encompasses 20 buildings, the task force teamed with Johnson Controls and turned Volkswagen's corporate goal into an opportunity to upgrade the control systems at the complex. The real challenge was to complete this major upgrade in less than six months. In addition to providing for the seamless integration with the existing fiber optic network, the key benefit of the Metasys system at Volkswagen is its underlying modular design.
