Overview: Organic markets are becoming global markets. This increase in trade is due to increasing consumer demand for organic goods. However, due to differences in consumer quality perceptions, organic standards and labels have developed differently around the world. These differences can result in trade barriers and unless equivalency is negotiated can often mean costly delays at borders or even a total ban of imports. This perception does not harm the domestic organic industry provided consumers can differentiate between imports and domestically produced goods.
