Overview: This paper is on the food standards in organic foods. The Food Standards Agency considers that there is not enough information available at present to be able to say that organic foods are significantly different in terms of their safety and nutritional content to those produced by conventional farming. From a nutritional point of view, the composition of individual foods is relatively unimportant. A varied and balanced diet which includes plenty of fruit, vegetables and starchy foods should provide all of the nutrients that a healthy individual requires, regardless of whether the individual components are produced by organic or conventional methods.
