Overview: The need for sustainable design and energy conservation in California has become increasingly important. As progressive agencies, the Department of General Services and the Franchise Tax Board sought ways to use renewable energy sources to satisfy their energy needs, implement the Blue Print and meet the Executive Order's goals. After evaluating multiple renewable energy alternatives, the State chose to install an onsite solar electric generation system at the Franchise Tax Board Central Office facility. The 470kWp photovoltaic rooftop array is integrated into the architecture of the Franchise Tax Board's Central Office building in Sacramento, and generates enough electricity during the day to power more than 400 homes.
