Overview: With its great weather, beaches, and major attractions, San Diego is known as one of the world's greatest tourist destinations. City officials had a vision of creating a completely "green" municipal building to be home to the Environmental Services Department. A vacant 75,000 square foot office complex was selected to be transformed into the City's first and most energy efficient and environmentally-sensitive building. San Diego, interested in reducing its energy bills while deploying renewable resources and energy conservation to meet its sustainable building goals, needed a cost-effective solution to reduce the costs associated with operating municipal facilities.
