Overview: This case study examines the pros and cons of municipal pool heating from a number of perspectives. Solar water heating in indoor municipal swimming pools could be the "low hanging fruit" of community-scale renewable energy systems in BC. The BC District of Lillooet has cut itself a good deal. Each month during the summer, a company supplies energy savings to its municipal pool at a rate 10% below the cost of its usual heat supply, a propane heater. The company guarantees that the pool is at the required temperature when it's needed.
