Overview: Every year, large-scale power generation produces hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) ? presenting environmental and health risks to Canadians. The challenge was to find alternative energy sources that could be harnessed to reduce these emissions and provide additional, flexible power for Canada's utilities. With the help of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), the University of New Brunswick is overcoming these obstacles. Its two-part solution is explained and discussed in this study.
