Overview: This paper focuses on debit card fraud. As debit cards become more popular among consumers, they are also a growing target for thieves and fraudsters. According to an ABA and Dove Consulting study, the number of consumers using debit cards to make in-store-purchases increased from 48 percent in 1999 to 57 percent in 2003, and the number of consumers using debit cards for signature-based transactions rose from 42 percent to 54 percent.
