Overview: Sweden has a rapidly expanding biotechnology sector that presently ranks fourth in Europe after Germany, UK, and France. The great majority of pipeline projects are in pre-clinical research. The Swedish Biopharma industry has more than doubled in the last six years, growing from 25 companies in 1996 to the current 52. This article provides a useful update on the subdivision of the sector known as Biopharma with a focus on Sweden.
