Overview: Check 21 will enable collecting banks to send check images (substitute checks or image replacement documents) instead of paper checks as presentment for payment to other financial intuitions. This will dramatically cut the volume of paper in circulation and eventually reduce transportation, float, and other check processing costs by more than $2 billion annually, industry-wide.
