Overview: This paper has been divided into two main parts. The first part deals with change in the banking and financial services industry and the drivers of that change, both on the demand side and the supply side, as experienced in Australia. Only by understanding the causes of change and motives for change can we better understand the management of that change. The second part of the paper deals with the management of the new electronic banking environment and gives a methodological framework for planning the introduction and use of new electronic and information technologies in financial institutions and subsequently evaluating the financial effectiveness of those technologies on the institution.
