Overview: This paper highlights that French and Swiss institutions are the leading hedge fund investors in Europe, according to a survey carried out by UK-based Fulcrum Research for Ludgate Communications, a specialist financial public relations group. The most popular hedge fund strategies proved to be long/short, market neutral and fund of funds. The survey of 100 European institutional investors based in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Switzerland and the UK revealed that 17 per cent already invested and 39 per cent planned to invest in hedge funds in the next two years.
