Overview: This paper views AEC/FM as one industry. Design and construction will be closely connected to the core business of the end users and must provide not only the physical spaces for the activities, but also essential information for the use and maintenance of the buildings as well as services based on the information. These different views will change the traditional tasks in the design and construction from the production-orientated approach to the life cycle orientated approach with customer tailored services. Information will become as an essential part of all products and life cycle information management will be a new branch in the AEC/FM cluster.
