Overview: This report was prepared for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and the Office of Disabilities and Community Services. Broad input on this report was received from consumers, advocates, people with disabilities, providers, and other state agencies. People use a variety of terms to describe the support they need in their daily lives due to disability or a chronic condition. "Long-term care" is the most commonly used term. In its broadest use, it refers to a wide range of institutional and community-based supports to help individuals meet their daily needs over an extended period of time. However, it is often associated with nursing facilities or other forms of institutional care.
