Overview: The Ohio Ready Mixed Concrete Association (ORMCA) and the Concrete Promotion Council of Southwest Ohio (promotion council) hosted a short seminar and demonstration of pervious concrete paving this summer. The demonstration slab will serve as a trial crosswalk at the Lakota East High School in Butler County, Ohio, where the seminar was conducted. The featured speaker for the seminar was Dan Brown, PE, a product specialist for Holcim (US) Inc. from Atlanta and the chairman of the American Concrete Institute's (ACI) Committee 522 Pervious Concrete. His presentation, "Pervious Concrete Pavement to Address Storm Water Issues," described some of the many uses of pervious concrete in dealing with the Clean Water Act, the LEEDS program, the Cool Communities program and sustainable building efforts.
