Overview: This white paper provides an overview of the RealDigital technology used in Xilinx CoolRunner-II CPLDs. RealDigital enables high performance and ultra low power consumption in programmable logic devices. RealDigital is a key technology for CoolRunner-II CPLDs that minimizes system current demand and allows small chip-scale packaging options. Low-power designs are enabled through RealDigital by using true CMOS both in process technology and design technique. The advantages of RealDigital are numerous. The power savings achieved with RealDigital can be realized with no impact on performance and no externally controlled provisions, such as power-down circuitry.
